MiroCam®

The Smallest, Longest Lasting Capsule Solution

The MiroCam® Capsule Endoscopy system from IntroMedic is the smallest capsule solution with the longest life cycle and highest image resolution available today.

MiroCam is an orally ingested capsule endoscope designed to capture and wirelessly transmit images of the lining of the small intestine. By providing patients with a more comfortable alternative to traditional endoscopic procedures, and giving physicians more options to visualize pathology of the digestive tract, the MiroView Capsule Endoscopy system represents an exciting innovation in the discipline of Gastroenterology.

Capsule Endoscopy is typically used to observe the small intestine and is a natural complement to the Fujinon DBE™ Double Balloon Endoscopy procedure.

How does it work?

The MiroCam capsule is swallowed with water and begins to operate immediately after ingestion. Capturing over 188,000 images in a typical cycle, the pill is passed through the normal phases of digestion while the camera transmits to a reciever via patented E-Field Propagation.

Unlike other capsule technology that use Radio Frequency (RF) to transmit images, MiroCam uses the natural electrical impulses of the human body as the transport medium - this advantage results in more efficient use of the battery meaning longer, more detailed observation of the small bowel.

The patient is asked to return the receiver at the end of the 11+ hours of operation and the capsule is naturally excreted (typically within 24 hours). The MiroView™ Workstation is then used to transfer files from the receiver via a high speed USB 2.0 connection . Here, video and still images are available in several formats including concurrent video streams of different sections of the anatomy with automatic detection of mucosal pathology (i.e. GI Bleeds).

The System:

The MiroCam Capsule Endoscopy System consists of:

  • MiroCam Capsule A single ingestible pill-sized camera equipped with 6 LED light sources and autofocus
  • MiroView Workstation A PC-based workstation used to compile, edit and view images
  • MiroCam Receiver A patient worn receiver utilizing patented E-Field Propagation for transport of images
  • Electrodes Lightweight and comfortable sensors used to track the capsule and receive electronic images.

An optional real-time viewer is available to provide immediate visual feedback from the capsule.

Features and Benefits:

  • Highest Resolution: 320 x 320 pixel resolution (102,400 pixels/image) - more than any other capsule solution
  • Longest Life: operation time of more than 11 hours - enough time to consistently reach the ileo-cecal valve
  • Smallest Capsule:
  • 11mm by 24mm, the smallest in the industry, easier to swallow
  • Fastest Frame Rate: 3 images per second means over 118,800 images obtained during 11+ hours of operation.

The Result:

The MiroCam Capsule Endoscopy system delivers the highest performing capsule solution available to today's healthcare professionals. The combination of longest life, smallest capsule and the highest resolution provides the necessary tools to make more accurate diagnosis.
